Matthew T. Mason is Director of the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and Professor of Computer Science and Robotics. Dr. Mason joined the Carnegie Mellon faculty in 1982.
Matt Mason's research interests are in robotic manipulation, including manufacturing automation, mobile manipulation, and robotic origami. He is co-author of Robot Hands and the Mechanics of Manipulation (MIT Press 1985), co-editor of Robot Motion: Planning and Control (MIT Press 1982), and author of Mechanics of Robotics Manipulation (MIT Press 2001). He is a winner of the System Development Foundation Prize, a Fellow of AAAI, and a Fellow of IEEE.
Dr. Mason earned his BS, MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at MIT, completing his doctorate in 1982.
The Robot Hall of Fame is an educational outreach activity of the Robotics Institute and Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center.
